Heather Goetsch

Adjunct Faculty

Heather Goetsch graduated from the University of Michigan with a Ph.D. in environmental engineering. She studied the risks of using human-urine-derived fertilizers to help offset the energy requirements of synthetic fertilizers and recover the nutrients from wastewater. This unique project also included a social perception investigation to identify how to inform the public of a novel technology in a truthful yet accessible way while mitigating the “ick-factor” of recycled urine.

Previously, Heather earned a master’s degree in environmental engineering at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. She has worked in the public sector as a project manager at the NYC Department of Environmental Protection in the Bureau of Engineering Design and Construction. She is now in the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Building Technologies Office, jointly working with the Emerging Technologies and Commercial Buildings Integration teams.
