Jeff SquierUnderstanding biological structure and function is an exciting multidimensional challenge. As such, my research is a highly collaborative endeavor, working with biologists and biophysicists to create novel instrumentation that will enable the Bio-community to explore and visualize dynamics in a minimally invasive way. For example, we have designed novel imaging systems that use “non-imaging” optics to capture three-dimensional image volumes with sub-micrometer spatial resolution and millisecond temporal resolution. Further, using optical systems that focus the femtosecond laser beam in space and time, we can perform specialized surgeries in biological systems of interest. Finally, we apply these techniques to real-world applications including the fabrication of micro-mechanical and micro-fluidic platforms.
